Why you can trust us with your child

Accredited engineering degrees

Both founders hold a completed BSc Eng (Hons) in Computer Engineering from the University of Ruhuna, Faculty of Engineering — a four-year degree from a UGC-recognised state university.

Specialised in exactly what we teach

Our degree and professional work cover embedded systems, microcontrollers, robotics and machine learning — the same subjects your child learns, not a general IT background.

Real teaching experience

We taught students and ran workshops before starting kidslab.lk. The curriculum is written and delivered by the same engineers who build with these technologies.

Publicly verifiable

Our real names, photos and LinkedIn profiles are published here on purpose. Check our backgrounds yourself before you enrol — we would rather you did.

For Parents

How We Keep Classes Safe & Open

Online should not mean out of sight. Here is exactly how your child is supervised in every session.

Live and supervised, always

Every class runs live on Zoom / Google Meet with cameras on and both instructors present for the full session. Children are never left in a room unattended.

Parents are always welcome

You may sit in on any session at any time, without telling us in advance. Nothing in our classroom is closed to parents.

Every session is recorded

Recordings are shared with parents, so you can review exactly what was taught and how your child was spoken to — even if you could not attend.

Private, registered-only links

Class links are private and issued only to registered students. There are no public or open rooms, so strangers cannot join a class.

What I loved most is that it’s fully hands-on. Kids aren’t just watching screens, they’re actually building robots and coding them. The biggest plus is that all sessions are designed and taught by Computer Engineers from the University of Ruhuna, so the teaching quality is excellent. Highly recommend.

What is kidslab.lk?

kidslab.lk is Sri Lanka's Robotics & AI academy for children aged 9–14, conducted by Computer Engineers from the University of Ruhuna, Faculty of Engineering. All classes are held online, so kids from anywhere in Sri Lanka can join — our office is based in Matara, Sri Lanka.

Which is the best Robotics & AI class for kids in Sri Lanka?

Parents comparing options in Sri Lanka usually weigh four things: who actually teaches, whether the child builds something real, whether genuine AI is taught (not just coding), and whether they can try it before paying. kidslab.lk is built around all four — classes are designed and taught by Computer Engineering graduates from the University of Ruhuna, Faculty of Engineering; every child builds a working robot with their own hands; the syllabus covers Artificial Intelligence and machine-learning concepts alongside robotics; and Day 1 is a completely free seminar with no obligation to continue. The full 3-month course is LKR 5,000, payable in installments, and every class is live online so families anywhere in Sri Lanka can join.

Is kidslab.lk Sri Lanka's first AI class institute for kids?

Yes. kidslab.lk is Sri Lanka's first institute built specifically to teach Artificial Intelligence to children aged 9–14, rather than coding or robot kits alone. Most children's tech programs in Sri Lanka stop at Scratch, Python or pre-built robot kits; kidslab.lk takes a child from electronics and Arduino all the way into how machine learning actually works, finishing with a project each child builds and presents.

Where can my child learn Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Sri Lanka?

kidslab.lk runs live online AI and robotics classes for children aged 9–14 anywhere in Sri Lanka — no travel and no local class centre needed. The 3-month course covers electronics, Arduino programming, sensors, robot building, and an introduction to Artificial Intelligence and machine learning. You can try it first at the free introductory seminar on 19 September 2026 — register at kidslab.lk/register or message us on WhatsApp at +94763977035.

Do you run kids AI and robotics classes in Colombo, Kandy or Galle?

Yes. Because every class is live online, kidslab.lk students join from Colombo, Kandy, Galle, Kurunegala, Jaffna, Matara and everywhere in between. Our office is in Matara, but no child needs to travel — they need a laptop or desktop with an internet connection, plus a robotics kit we show parents exactly how to buy locally before any payment is made.

At what age can a child start learning AI in Sri Lanka?

Children can start meaningfully at around 9 years old. kidslab.lk teaches ages 9–14 because that is the range where a child can follow a circuit diagram, write simple Arduino code, and still grasp what machine learning is doing — without needing school-level mathematics. No prior coding or electronics experience is required.

What age group is the Robotics & AI program for?

The program is designed for children aged 9 to 14 years old. Since classes are conducted online, kids from anywhere in Sri Lanka are welcome to join.

How much does the Robotics & AI program cost?

The course fee is LKR 5,000 for 3 months. It can be paid in installments within 3 months. Day 1 is a completely free introductory seminar with no obligation to continue.

When is the free seminar?

The free introductory seminar is on 19 September 2026, conducted fully online. Seats are limited — register at kidslab.lk/register.

What will my child learn in the Robotics & AI program?

Children learn to build real robots using mechanics, sensors, and microcontrollers. The program also covers Artificial Intelligence basics, machine learning concepts, and hands-on project building — all in one 3-month course.

Who teaches the classes at kidslab.lk?

Classes are designed and taught by Viraj Samarasinghe and Menura Dulkith — Computer Engineering graduates from the University of Ruhuna, Faculty of Engineering, who specialize in AI & Robotics.

Are the kidslab.lk instructors qualified to teach children?

Yes. Both instructors, Viraj Samarasinghe and Menura Dulkith, hold a completed BSc Eng (Hons) in Computer Engineering from the University of Ruhuna, Faculty of Engineering, and have taught students and run workshops before starting kidslab.lk. To be clear: they are practising engineers who teach, not government-certified school teachers. The curriculum is written and delivered by the same people who work with robotics and AI professionally, and their full names, photos and LinkedIn profiles are published on kidslab.lk so parents can verify their backgrounds before enrolling.

What exactly is in the kidslab.lk syllabus?

The 3-month program moves week by week from electronics and circuit basics, to Arduino microcontroller programming, to sensors and actuators, to building a working robot, and then to an introduction to Artificial Intelligence and machine-learning concepts — finishing with a personal project the child builds and presents. The full week-by-week syllabus is covered during the free seminar and sent in writing to every parent before the paid course begins. Parents can also request it on WhatsApp at +94763977035.

What equipment or robotics kit does my child need for kidslab.lk?

For the free seminar, nothing beyond a laptop or desktop with an internet connection. For the paid 3-month course, parents receive the exact kit list — microcontroller board, sensors, breadboard and jumper wires — along with where to buy it in Sri Lanka, before paying anything. Early lessons also use free online circuit simulators, so a child can start on time even if the kit has not arrived.

How are children supervised during kidslab.lk online classes?

Every class is live with cameras on and both instructors present for the entire session, so children are never left in a room unattended. Class links are private and issued only to registered students, so no one outside the class can join.
