AI classes for kids in Sri Lanka

Where in Sri Lanka can my child take an AI class?

Children anywhere in Sri Lanka can join kidslab.lk's AI and robotics classes, because every session is taught live online and joined from home. It's the same programme in every district: the same teachers, the same twelve-week syllabus, LKR 5,000 for three months and a free first session. The academy's only office is in Matara.

What the class covers

There are two parts, and we teach them side by side. In the AI part, children train a model on examples, see it get something wrong with full confidence, and work out why. That's how they learn that a model is trained rather than programmed, and that it can only recognise what its training data showed it. In the engineering part, they work with circuits, sensors, a microcontroller and motors. They find out that a sensor gives a messy reading, and most of the work is deciding what to do with it.

It isn't a maths class. The maths behind neural networks suits children of 15 and over, and starting with it puts off kids who would otherwise be good at this. Three months at this age gives a child real understanding and practical skills. It won't make them a professional, so be careful of anyone who promises to turn a ten-year-old into an “AI developer”.

Where children can join from

Every kidslab.lk class is taught live online, so the programme is the same wherever a child joins from — same teachers, same twelve-week syllabus, same LKR 5,000. What differs between districts is what the online format is worth to a family there, and that is what these pages are about.

kidslab.lk has one office, at Hittatiya Central in Matara. We have no branches in other districts, and you never need to visit the office to enrol or attend.
